What's Your Advocate Doing?

A few people have asked "what are you advocates up to anyway?"  Here's a reminder of the various duties that Christie and Peter take on as advocates based on our activity log from last year.


Curriculum & Instruction

  • Provide reminders of staff/schoolwide agreements such as mission and vision & learning outcome descriptions.
  • Organize and facilitate design of school wide rubrics.
  • Observations and meetings with new teachers to go over curriculum & instruction practices & resources.
  • Observations and meetings with teachers on project development.
  • Encourage and facilitate (as needed) Peer Project Reviews (at least one per teacher per semester, all staff view and provide feedback).
  • Serve as panelist in student presentations.
  
Staff Collaboration & Communication

  • Set up a “Staff Handbook” in ECHO
  • Organize (and facilitate as needed) staff collaboration time
  • Post “Advocate Corner” in school blog with teacher tips and resources.
  • Be a general first “go to” for staff who are facing a problem or challenge of any sort, provide direction to appropriate resources.
  • Communicate with Network regarding staff needs and to follow up on staff communication (if had gone unanswered).

Technology

  • Email instructions for how to set up courses in ECHO for upcoming school year
  • Meetings with individual staff members on technology resources and for “how to” instruction.
  • Plan and provide workshops on technology tools.
  • Assist with troubleshooting technology problems.
  • Made tutorials on how to use ECHO tools.

 Leadership
  • Attend leadership team meetings.
  • Help plan New Tech Conference staff meeting time.
  • Help determine how to utilize funds.
  • Strategize with leadership team around building a culture of innovation amongst staff.
  • Encourage and facilitate NTN Teacher Certification process for interested / eligible teachers.
  • Biweekly (varied) advocate meetings.
  • Meetings with Network staff regarding NTN Demonstration Site application.
