I wrote a proposal to provide us with a one day all staff retreat, and it has been funded. I believe that we need a day together to bond and focus on rising to the incredible challenges that confront us in the work we do at New Tech. This retreat will be facilitated by Lyle Kirtman, wh has worked with more than 250 school districts on managing the difficult demands of schools today with shrinking resources, in a manner that improves communication and solves problems that will help you meet your personal and professional goals and needs. Tom Solberg and I recently participated in one of Lyle's retreats, and we found it inspirational and very valuable and relevant to the work we do; it enhanced our ability to communicate with each other and helped us understand and appreciate each other in a more comprehensive way.
For this retreat, you will complete in advance two on-line leadership inventories (the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the DISC). These two inventories are well validated and highly reliable in helping professionals understand their styles of problem solving and behaviors at work. Our school will get a profile of its team that will help us build on the strengths of the team and deal with the gaps that could cause problems both in the short and long term. We will leave the retreat with a better understanding of how to rise to our challenges; as well, you will be provided time to work with your department or team-teacher to immediately start using this information. The session will be fun and enlightening, and prove to be beneficial to your work in the school and your own professional development.
The retreat will take place on a Saturday here at New Tech. Lunch will be provided, and each staff member who attends will receive a $150 stipend for their time.
