You (and all parents, students, community members and alumni) are invited and encouraged to attend a meeting at New Tech on Thursday, February 28th from 6:30 - 8 pm.
This meeting will be facilitated by the Friends of New Tech (FONT) Board, our 501c3 non-profit, and will focus on "New Tech's Financial Future." As you may know, New Tech has been the beneficiary of significant grants (approximately $200,000 annually) since its inception, and these grants will cease on July 1, 2013. This meeting will be facilitated by FONT Officers Ed Lieberman, CPA, and Shanna Rodgers,Treasurer, who will share a comprehensive budget with you.
Please plan on joining us that evening to better understand our history, and where we are going financially in the next 3 to 5 years.
Celebrations
Everything about Poetry Outloud was awesome during the ASM. It's wonderful to see
- adults from our community serving as panelists,
- students respectfully listening and cheering each other on,
- staff engaged and supporting the event
- multi-media blended with live performance
- high quality live performance!
I was also pleased to hear the repeated requests that came from students to show the one video over so that they could hear the sound. I was looking around the room admiring the multiple layers of staff support and coordinate that had to occur to bring this event to fruition. You all make it look so easy and effortless. I don't know if you take yourselves for granted, but things like this really stand out to me as evidence of a phenomenal staff that works together with a high level of coordination. I'm impressed and grateful. Thanks for all that you do, and for bringing opportunities to experience the arts to our students.
New Tech Celebrates Success
I already sent out an email to you with a bit of reflection about that event. I forgot to mention that students who were unable to attend the event due to conflicts with college classes need to receive their award certificates. Pam will put them in the English teacher's mailboxes. Please hand them out to your students on Monday. We will do a super quick recognition for all these kids at an upcoming ASM (i.e. Stand if you were awarded all at the same time and we applaud you for 30 seconds).
Next Steps: While its fresh and current news, please talk up how cool it is that 106 students earned academic scholarships ($50 each) and certificates based on their CST scores or growth on their CST scores! We will be rolling out round two of NT Celebrates Success in early April
College Courses versus AP Scores
More evidence that AP and honors courses are not the be-all and end-all in the eyes of colleges. Dartmouth has stopped accepting AP credit (link to article), but a college can't refuse to accept an actual college transcript. I believe our program and college course requirements are such a better way to go!
