It appears to me that we (meaning all of us, students and staff) have been behaving under an assumption that we have enough money to provide all the paper and batteries that we all need for our various projects and classwork. For example, at the start of this school year we had approximately 150 AA batteries which are now nearly depleted. Even worse, we have entirely depleted our paper budget, meaning: in three months, we have used up over 100,000 sheets of paper.
As I look to making tough choices about spending limited funds, my priorities are to spend money on activities that will help us close our achievement gaps, and to find a way to set appropriate parameters around paper usage and copier expenses. Please begin an aggressive conservation effort, and implement practices which could assist our students in being less wasteful with paper. If you need batteries for flip-cams, plan on spending some of your Parent Club monies. Pam Tuthill can get an incredible bargain on cheap batteries, and is happy to place a bulk order for anyone wanting to use batteries in the future.
I am opening a discussion thread in ECHO and would very much like to hear your perspective, and any ideas you have about how we can appropriately regulate our use of paper and batteries.
