What Supports Are Available for Me?

You may find yourself asking, What can my advocates do for me?”
Here’s a list of how your advocates, Peter (advocate prep 4th period) & Christie (advocate prep 5th period), use their time and may be of help to you:

Current/ongoing projects & duties:
·      Members of Leadership Team – meet regularly with team and represent teacher perspective
·      Building out school handbook in ECHO
·      Serve as bridge to New Tech Network
·      Encourage use of Network tools and Critical Friends
·      Substitute when needed to allow for teacher swaps and observations or attend classes if needed to facilitate classroom activities
·      NTN Demonstration Site application (including revising School Success Rubric) & encourage teachers to become NTN Certified Teachers
·      Friday collaboration planning and implementation
·      Technology and ECHO quick guides and workshops as needed
·      1:1 time with staff for assistance in anything from technology to designing projects to managing the PBL classroom.
·      Advocate Corner in TGIF blog with resources and announcements
·      Present workshops to staff at optional staff meetings
·      Encourage literacy across the curriculum / sort through resources and share especially useful tools/resources with staff
·      Facilitate coordination of mandated testing (CAHSEE, CSTs) so it is least restrictive to teachers

Goals for the future:
·      Compile alumni data
·      Facilitate inter-school teacher swap & cross-school projects
·      Facilitate school wide rubric development for learning outcomes (descriptions agreed upon are posted in Staff Handbook)

Amy Gibson is our District Coach. She is available (once back from maternity leave) to help with:

  • Any advice on anything
  • Observations
  • Project development and tools for scaffolding

Megan Pacheco is our Network Coach. She supports us this way:

  • Connecting us to the New Tech Network
  • Reviewing and approving our Demonstration Site application
  • Reviewing, supporting and approving our Teacher Certification applications
  • Meeting with the Leadership Team, providing us with insight and best practices from other schools throughout the Network

There is a new coach available to us through the Network to help us with math, Geoff Krall. He can help us:
  • Project ideas
  • Curriculum-mapping
  • Instructional strategies
  • Problem-based learning
  • Developing small, easy formative assessments as part of a project to ensure all students are engaged, and learning

If you have needs or ideas that are not addressed here, please don’t hesitate to check in with us - thank you to those of you who have!

  1. Alix Horton is also the literacy coach. Christie/Peter will be encouraging more literacy based on NTN's and her recommendations in the near future.
