Celebrations

Dear Staff,

You have all done so much this year, I am amazed. I know how stressful the last couple of weeks have been; educators always find December to be rather chaotic and stressful, but I think we at New Tech feel it even more severely because of our strong connections to students and the nature of project-based learning. Now is the time to celebrate, and to recoup. I want you to know what an amazing group of people you are, as human-beings and as educators. Often in our striving to continually improve, we forget to slow down and celebrate how good we are doing. The New Tech Network has been gathering extensive and detailed data from all of its schools across the country. Although they have not yet published the data (and they wouldn't let me have an advance sneak peek), they have verbally acknowledged that we continue to be, in many regards, the best of the best! We lead the country in so many categories, and we are the beacon of light that others are striving to be like. Napa New Tech remains on the cutting edge and the forefront of the nation in educating students and preparing them well to succeed in life. In the early analysis, NTN indicates that Napa is doing well in:

1)      10th Grade Reading is outstanding
2)      On the CWRA, a test that analyzes preparation for college, Napa students outscored current college freshman by a very high degree
3)      SAT scores were among the higher in the county
4)      Life Science and Biology are both strongly increasing over time

I see many powerful practices being implemented across our campus. Our math teachers are implementing new initiatives to help students make the connection between the quantitative reasoning embedded in projects and problems, and to transfer that understanding to a linear, pen and paper modality. Last year our Algebra 1 CST scores were the highest in the district out of all the high schools! Our social studies and English CST scores also lead the district significantly. And we have wonderful

Please spend time over the break to rest and rejuvenate, and to reflect on the tremendous good work you have done at New Tech. I am proud of every single member of this phenomenal staff. Warmest wishes to you and your loved ones over the holidays!

Sincerely, Michelle
