Welcome to December

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful participation in Wednesday's staff meeting, and for your generosity in allowing so many visitors from throughout the District sit in with you. I was especially struck by the questions you asked to the presenters, as well as your "I Wonders" that came out in the debrief. Here is the link to the Google notes from the debrief, please feel free to add any additional "I Likes" or "I Wonders." Thank you to those who were able to stay for the additional time, making it quite a late afternoon. I found your reflections to be inspiring in that they show all the complexities inherent in our model and our committed dedication to serving all of our students.

Remember: I am asking you to try to visit at least one other classroom, using a "Learning Walk" approach before you leave for Winter Break (if possible). You may visit a classroom during your own prep OR you may request that our advocates, Peter and Christie, serve as a substitute teacher for you during a block (or part of a block) so that you can get out and see your peers in action in the classroom. Two driving questions you might ask during your Learning Walk: (1) what evidence do you see of students learning versus doing. Do the students clearly understand what they are learning or do they seem focused on completing tasks? and (2) Are all students fully engaged and being held accountable for their learning? Especially notice, do our sub-group students (especially Latinos) engage and show evidence of learning?

What are your beliefs about student learning? I have a brief survey that I'd like you to take. Although it's probably not necessary, I have set the survey so that it is 100% anonymous, because I want you be feel completely comfortable in being honest and open. What is our general consensus and belief system about how students learn? Click here for the survey. Please complete it as soon as possible. I'm looking for 100% response, but I won't know who has responded and who hasn't, so I'll be counting the numbers. You must be logged in to your school account to take this survey. THANKS!!
